One cannot graphic’ly portray the Holy Trinity.
For how can one make visible an unseen mystery?
And yet there is a diagram which helps some people see
the three-in-one relationship that is the Trinity:
a wheel drawn with three equidistant spokes from hub to rim.
Now, at the points the radii have touched the outer rim
write “Father,” “Son,” and “Holy Spirit.” At the hub write “God.”
Then on each radius write “is” (each one of them is God),
but on each arc between the points write down the words “is not.”
So as we view the diagram now, here is what we’ve got:
The Father’s not the Spirit and the Spirit’s not the Son.
The Son is not the Father, yet the three of them are one,
for all are God ---the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, too.
The diagram attempts to show what we believe is true.
We can’t resolve the paradox or solve the mystery,
but we can say what we believe about the Trinity.
