GOD IN THREE PERSONS

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you” (John 14:26).

The doctrine of the Trinity has caused some argument.
Some say it’s nowhere to be found in the New Testament.
It is traditional, they say, a logical attempt
by early theologians to express but not preempt
what they believed the Scriptures had implicitly confirmed
about the nature of the God whom Christians have affirmed.
While it is true the word itself is nowhere to be found,
the biblical foundation for the Trinity is sound.
One only has to read the things that Jesus had to say
about the Holy Spirit and his Father, and the way
the three of them relate, to be conclusively impressed
the doctrine of the Trinity is properly expressed.
The Father, Son, and Spirit: three-in-one and one-in-three,
and so we sing, “God in three Persons, blessed Trinity.”
