ETERNAL TENTS

Lectionary text: Luke 16:9 (NRSV) - And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of dishonest wealth so that when it is gone, they may welcome you into the eternal homes.

Eternal habitations:
the Greek word used means “tents.”
A literal translation
conveys a different sense.
One does not see a tent as
a permanent abode.
A tent is great for nomads,
those who are on the road.
And maybe that’s exactly
what Luke wanted to say,
for those who follow Jesus
are always on the way.
Yet God is ever with us
in our on-going quest,
and where God is our home is,
   and our eternal rest.
