THE RULER OF THIS WORLD

Lectionary Text: John 14:28-30, NRSV - “You heard me say to you, 'I am going away, and I am coming to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you this before it occurs, so that when it does occur, you may believe. I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me. . .”

“You heard me say I’ll go away
but I’ll come back to you.
If you loved me, you would rejoice
        that I am going to
the Father, for he is greater
than I.  And now I’ve told
you this before it all takes place,
        so when it does unfold,
you may believe. Satan will come
and when he does, you’ll see,
the ruler of this world does not
        have power over me.”
I know that Jesus’ words are true,
but it is plain to see
the ruler of this world still has
some power over me!
